(Anonymous) 2015-03-23 08:18 am (UTC)(link)Personally, I really like the extra closeness with incestuous pairings - being family and lovers at the same time, and seeing how or if you can really juggle those two hats. (I read a good Thranduil/Legolas fic with that where T/L ended up breaking up because Legolas still needed a dad and Thranduil didn't know how to be a dad and a lover too, and just steered Legolas in another direction but there wasn't a lot of angst in the story; it was just Legolas growing through his attraction and T waiting him out.)
I feel like Turin/Nienor is a separate kind of incestuous relationship - accidental incest, where the audience knows about the incest but they don't. Since they didn't grow up together, they didn't have that family bond that's what is intriguing about incest to me. Obviously, it's still very much incest but it definitely has a different flavor than other kinds of incestuous ships.
