If you're buying used video games online, check your local classifieds and compare the usual selling price on eBay/Amazon. Even a rare game can be cheap if a seller low balls themselves. Sometimes it might be sold along with what you want, which means you could make a profit by reselling it.

Also, specialty retro shops will more than likely spike their price. Avoid them unless you really can't find a game/system you're looking for elsewhere.

If you're about to reply angrily to an internet person, you should probably come back after half an hour so you can calm down and avoid looking like a typical weirdo.
