That is pretty striking. My father is pretty damn old (over 70) and I'm 26. I remember going skiing with my dad as a kid (he taught me to ski) and he'd be out for an hour or two and then spend the rest of the time in the lodge while I skied alone because his knees hurt. I did all the yard chores that required physical strength (lawnmowing, tree pruning, etc) starting from the age of 10 because my mother could no longer do it at her age. Having children at that age is an absolute strain on the limits of a person's health. Most people don't even consider that point.

Not to mention that Gaiman will probably die before he sees any grandchildren.
