I don't see it as a troll, necessarily, but I do get the impression someone rubbed OP the wrong way. Which sucks, but -


To me, the idea that an author would not care 1) about at least trying to write accurately about the culture they're writing about, and 2) about members of their audience that would be thrown out of the narrative by their determination to be ignorant - British OR American.

Yeah, I guess it could be that. Which is sad, but yeah. Wilful ignorance is still wilful.

I didn't see this secret as being a troll because I've come across this opinion before. Some can get furious at even the idea of writing in a language not their own, or worse, that others might be judging them for their refusal to even try.

People can get very defensively angry about their right to remain wilfully ignorant.

God, this comment makes me sad. :( If nothing else, that people have been burned somewhere by someone so badly that they will wilfully stunt their own learning and interest in the world.
