I don't really see the problem, unless they are relatively recent historical people.

I have loads of favorite historical figures. I love all the crazy Roman emperors, Genghis Khan, etc. One of my all time favorites is Alexander the Great, and modern media tends to give him the hero cut, but arguably he was also a half-crazy bully who slaughtered a lot of people and had a temper. What d'ya do. I just can appreciate charisma in a historical figure, no matter how batshit they are!

I love Alexander the Great and he's so much more fun if you accept that he was a crazy self-obsessed asshole.
