Probably because I'm not invested in most competition, but I don't think steroids or other drug usage in sports is a big deal. You have leagues and class(iirc?) according to size, sex, weight, and whatever. How about authorized drug league.

Eh, I think there are strong arguments that an authorized drug league would be pretty unhealthy for those participating, and that all things considered, it's probably better to have a clean league.

But I do share the IRL unpopular opinion that steroid use in sports doesn't bother me as much as it does others, especially in baseball, where I think it's MASSIVELY overblown for a bunch of different reasons. And also I think that most sports are probably pretty rife with use of PEDs, and fans are mostly just happy to ignore it.

It mostly bothers me because I hate to see people hurt themselves by pushing their bodies harder than they can handle.

True, but I feel like people would be doing so with or without the use of drugs. Whether it's becoming dangerously underweight if you dance, or screwing up your knees because not respecting your limits means you get to remain competitive, it's always going to be there.

Don't I know it. Funny you should mention screwing up the knees...

I really hate how often pushing past your limits is praised. It's one thing to push a bit and realize that your limits were different than you thought, but there are some limits that it's dangerous to not respect. While steroid use is condemned by a lot of people who promote the "push push push and never stop!" attitude, it still feels very related to the same issue.

Knees are the worst :( Kid I used to be friends with (when I was a kid ofc) played minor league hockey, but he had to quit after he ended up in knee surgery. And my family has a history of general knee problems as we age, and my sister sped up the arrival of hers with running. She has the good sense to stop when it hurts though.

For the most part, I agree. I feel like the expectancy to exceed is what drives athletes to use whatever advantage they can.

It's definitely a big deal for cycling. There's no real split like that for it and in a sport where even the smallest advantage in aerodynamics and form are important it makes a difference. It's also been historically very dangerous for the athletes.
