Well, not all. Some like Strattera are not stimulants.

Edit: Also in people with ADHD, stimulants have a paradoxical effect of slowing them down.

Yup. Which my doctor is currently fighting my insurance over, because I haven't tried the "cheaper" options like Adderall first... because I have hypertension (when I got on bp meds my bp was 210/170, I shit you not; granted that was exacerbated by the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life constant for three weeks but STILL) and it's a stimulant. I may end up having to try it anyway and monitor my bp to prove I can't take it. Fucking insurance companies.

edit: YES on the slow-down effect. My ex-bf got his ADHD diagnosis as an adult both because his daughter has it but also because he literally required an ENTIRE POT of coffee in the morning to allow his brain to function, and probably another pot throughout the day. If he didn't have his coffee? Woooow. He finally mentioned it to a doctor, who was like, "... and nobody ever diagnosed you with ADHD before!?!?!?!?"
