I remember a few years back there was this secret by a guy (he said in the secret that he was a man) complained that all the fic people read and wrote was shippy fic as opposed to his CLEARLY SUPERIOR gen fic. That and the fact that most professional romantic novels are written by women makes me suspect male fanwriters would probably not be interested in shippy fic.

I did some freelance work for a guy who makes a living writing romance novels under a female non de plume. But he started his career in the sixties so I kind of doubt writers would feel the need to do that nowadays.
