His and Catherine's relationship worked for me when the two were friends-with-benefits, but when the show tried to make it more it felt like Steve and Catherine weren't on the same page. They didn't want the same things from the relationship, and Steve didn't even seem that into her anymore. (Besides, well, the sex.) So I def think he's more emotionally invested in Danny, romantically or otherwise, than Catherine; they just connect more.
But I also feel like he was more invested in Chin and Kono too, though his relationship with Danny is of course special in a way that words can't express, haha.
I know! It's funny how these things happen. I swear I didn't make this secret. I was going to reply to that comment, but later. I'm so behind.

For the sake of argument, I don't think it necessarily means anything that he seemed to like having sex with Catherine (and other women, too, presumably, but as far as I can remember Catherine's the only one we've been specifically told about). I don't think it's too far-fetched that especially in a conservative military environment, a guy would try pretty hard to convince people (and/or himself) that he really DOES like having sex with women. Any romantic feelings he's had for guys, he convinces himself it's friendship, and he has sex with women because that's just what you do; having sex with men isn't an option. All that said...I don't actually think that's the story the show is telling, but in theory, I think it's possible.
Maybe he's bi, and he genuinely does like both (although maybe in different ways/amounts). I mean...Danny's been in the picture the entire time that we've seen. When he started to lose interest in Catherine, and didn't seem into other women...Danny was already there. So maybe it's not so much a gender thing, it's not that he's not into them because they're women...he's not into them because he already has feelings for someone else.
Or he's not really interested in romance in general, and Danny took him totally by surprise (I think we've even talked about this exact thing before?). Things with Catherine were fine when it was just a friends with benefits situation, but then when she wanted more, that's when he lost interest. And by then he had Danny and was so emotionally invested in him, he didn't feel like he really needed Catherine anymore. And maybe he just doesn't care that much about romance, friendship is more important to him, which is why he seemed more invested in Chin and Kono, and with Danny it started out as friendship, too (before eventually turning into something else).
So...I don't know. Honestly, I'm not really serious with my 'Steve is gay' theory in that I think he actually is (I mostly just find it fun to speculate), but I wouldn't be surprised if he was, or bi, or not interested in romance at all but Danny's an exception. It's hard to say, because except for Catherine (who we've both agreed that he didn't really seem all that into) we really don't know anything about his romantic history (I mean, I have my theories about Freddie, and Tumblr has theories about that boy in high school, but nothing that's been confirmed by the show). With Danny I feel like it's pretty clear that he's always liked girls, and if he does like Steve (and while it seems obvious that Steve's in love with him, I don't always think that Danny necessarily feels the same way) I would easily buy that Steve's the first guy he's ever been romantically interested in. But Steve...who knows. Whatever the case, though, I refuse to believe he isn't totally in love with Danny. If Lori had feelings for Steve (and that was waaay less obvious) then Steve definitely has feelings for Danny lol.
