Re: Would you/have you named someone after a work of fiction?

Some people seem to be acting like naming a kid after someone in fiction is the most ridiculous thing...but I think it depends on the name. If it's an out there name or something that would be out of place, like some anime names, then yeah.

But if its a common name, then who cares where it came from? Why is fiction a less valid inspiration than reusing the names of family members or something? There are names based after nature, colors, lots of things. If I named a child Lily it could be after the flower or after Lily Potter. If I named a child Edward, it could be after my father or dead great uncle, or it could be Edward Cullen, or conversely Edward Elric.

so I'd say yeah I would, within reason. I wouldn't pick bizarre out there names from anime, but I might pick something inspired by someone from a book I read.
