Oh CRAP. I knew I should have kept up on that show. I'm working on a pilot right now featuring a trans guy named Tony, after a nice fella who was at the same name-change court session as me. But if there's just been a trans guy named Tony on TV, I'll have to change the name.

Any suggestions? He's a neurotic overthinker who plays amateur baseball; kinda like Charlie Brown in some ways.

Ooh, your pilot sounds really interesting, and I'd love to hear more about it. Are you specifically looking for names that can derive from sources that are either masculine or feminine (like Tony) or just any male names?

My first thought is Joe, as it fits that androgynous source criteria, and is a prominent baseball-related name.

Honestly, the young guy I stole the name from had Anthony on his name-change form, so that's where I got Tony. (Though I was planning on having the pitcher be named Steve, just because in the event the show gets produced and gets a fandom, I liked the idea of there being Steve/Tony shippers, just to confuse everyone.)

Joe's not bad, though it might be raising expectations about his batting. On reflection, I'm starting to like Charlie. Some of the trans guys I know adopt very ambiguous, nontraditional names, but I feel like that's wrong for this character. Other thoughts?

Well, not living up to expectations does sound like it might fit the character.

Charlie is good. In general, I think that diminutive forms of names (Charlie instead of Charles; Tony instead of Anthony) do tend to work well to raise sympathy for the character.

Random names: Emmett, Kenny, Jules/Julian, Pete, Hunter
