I just watched "Horns". Please cheer me up

(Anonymous) 2015-03-28 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I just watched "Horns". Good film, Good story, well acted, emotional punches abound, all that good stuff.

Now I am horrible depressed. Horribly so. Can someone recommend me some happy place media?

Sad media always hits me hard. I can't take it. I watch movies to be happier than I am in real life just for a few hours. I am, I'm sorry to say, having extremely dark thoughts. I need to distract myself with something positive (Not "something positive" Branwen leaving just about did for me, Then Faye's death I had to walk away. It could have been bunnies cuddling for the last few years but I wouldn't know because there's only so much misery I can take. And now typing about it is depressing me further. It's a fucking cycle, I swear.)

Anyway TLDR: Cheerful media. I need it.

I got your back, anon. https://youtu.be/SSAYvMQWIXc

(Also, you're right, it's a good movie. The novel's even better.)

Really liked the movie except for the ending, which just came off as jumbled and campy to me. Think it did better while the supernatural stuff was ambiguous.

Without knowing what you're into or know, have a random collection of videos on youtube I find funny:

jacksepticeye is an extremely chipper YouTuber, and a recent St PAtrick's Day game update gave him a chance to be his most Irish ever. Makes me giggle a lot!

Not instant-access on YouTube, but I always get cheered up by a good ol' action-adventure movie. Indiana Jones or the Mummy movies, or The Librarian movies if you want something more campy...National Treasure, Romancing the Stone, Big Trouble in Little China.

If you've never seen the tv show Scarecrow and Mrs King, that's a terrific 80s spy show with Bruce Boxleitner as a James Bond type who gets partnered with a housewife who's surprisingly gifted at spy stuff. Remington Steele is a similarly fun show of a similar vintage, with screwball comedy tropes and a film noir aesthetic. (also Pierce Brosnan being amazingly good at physical comedy)

The only thing I know about "Horns" is that (considering the previews, anyway) Harry Potter looks pretty sexy as a Qunari.

Happy times stuff...uh, have you ever played Portal? You might not want to shell out cash for this, but being depressed during Portal is not possible. At least I don't think it is, because I always spend the game laughing heartily and being in an all around good mood. Some of the later puzzles can be a tad bit challenging if you're doing them for the first time, but they aren't super confounding and are all kinds of fun. It's a very rewarding game.

As for movies...maybe something like Kung Fu Panda, Shrek or Pirates of the Caribbean? Indiana Jones, Rush Hour or Hot Fuzz are pretty fun and light-hearted. Galavant is a recent example of a tv show, though since that has musical numbers it might be hit and miss.

Again, don't know if you like games but the Lego video games are very 'happy place'. I've only played a couple (LOTR, Star Wars, and some of Batman) but they're great!

I'm sure there's some online place you can watch it.
