OP, are you talking about your fandom in particular (if you, good for you!) or just fandom in general?
Because for fandom in general this is simply not true, most places people are as terrible on the issue of what makes one a real fan as they've always been.
Maybe it's been blissfully outside of your loop, but there's a few of those people still ruining things for people everywhere.

However, I have to wonder what fandom you're in that the 'real fan' bullshit is no longer a problem. I think that's a topic that will be around as long as fandom exists. (Which is unfortunate, because it sucks the fun out of things.)

Danny Phantom fandom had this pretty bad during our fandom war. A group of fans even called themselves "True fans" (literally lol) and the other "side" "Anti-Fans.

There so many conditions people attach to "real" fans:

If you like the movie, but didn't read the book - you're not a real fan.
If you read the book, but liked the movie better - you're not a real fan.
If you didn't like all of the movies - you're not a real fan.
If you liked all of the movies (you're supposed to only like A, C, and D and think B and E are terrible) - you're not a real fan.
If you didn't read the comics - you're not a real fan.
If you watch/read all the supplemental material - you're not a real fan.
Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

- Different Style (Simpsons is usually ok, but anything else is wrong)
- Re-imagining the characters as ponies, princesses, sailor senshi, anthros, mers, nagas, jedi, mandalorians, fish, robots, superheroes, or piles of rocks.

If you prefer the old/new adaptation to the new/old one - you're not a real fan.
If you prefer the adaptation/s to the source material - you're not a real fan.
If you haven't read the source material and get confused by something in the adaptation/s - you're not a real fan.
If you criticize certain things/one thing/at all - you're not a real fan.

Needless to say some fandoms are heavily filtered on my dash.

Lucky you. Not only does my fandoms have people arguing over new vs old versions of adaptations, one of them also has a bonus "you can't complain about the new anime because it's just like the manga!" reply to any possible criticism... even when it's about things caused by the team changing things from the manga.

Like, say, the villains surviving their deaths. Or how some scenes read completely different because they leave out critical lines or details.
