Image: The logos for the TV shows Whose Line is it Anyway? and QI.

Text: I sometimes fantasize about being a contestant on these shows.
(Under the Whose Line logo): I feel like I'd do really well at Props, Scenes from a Hat, and Foreign Film Dub.
(Under the QI Logo): I'm a font of useless information anyway, so my goal would be to not trigger the alarm at any point.
But even when I'm daydreaming, I can never shake off the fact that I'm neither famous nor a comedian, and thus could never qualify to be on either show.
Sometimes I wish I didn't have such a realist streak. I just want to pretend I'm capable of being creatively silly!

Yeah but you'd have to be able to think in your feet and be funny which is hard. Also if you're a woman you'd be held up to double the level of scrutiny by the audience :(

You know what makes the top female comics today so good? The fact that they don't give a fuck about audience scrutiny. They just care about being their best and their funniest.

Promote Feminism, not Feminisn't.

I get that with QI, because I so often know the answers when they don't. But I probably wouldn't be funny enough (aside from the whole not being famous stumbling block)

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't be any good at them, but I do feel that way about University Challenge. I actually made a secret about it a few weeks back. And I legitimately think I would be good on it. Not one of the best, but actually competitive.

Speaking as someone who has been on University Challenge, I will say that it's a hundred times harder when you're actually on the set. And it's one thing to know the answers, but another to know it faster than some kid from Cambridge who took an educated guess from the first four words of the question.

I'd be ace at QI.

If I was a little high, a little drunk, and a little in an alternative universe.

I'm awarding you points for using the screen cap of "Whose Line" from the BBC version! I bet I could find those episodes on YouTube.

Thank you, I will cherish those points.

I loved the British Whose Line (hence using that image). Paul Merton and his obsession with Twiglets gets me every time.

I think it'd be fun to participate too, but I'd probably get stage fright. :)

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, if you were rich you could possibly be on the shows. Sometimes if a big enough donation is made to Comic Relief or Children in need you can buy a position. At least that used to be the case. *feeling old*

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't ever remember that applying to Whose Line or QI, though. Can you think of any examples?
likeadeuce: (genius)

I know it wouldn't be the same thing as you're talking about, but you might be able to look for (or start) a local improv group? Maybe a skype group or podcast if there isn't enough of a local community. Just a thought!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-30 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, gotta start somewhere!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-30 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I feel you, OP. I like having famous singer fantasies, but it tends to kill the mood when I remember that I've got stage fright, a weak voice, and no range. I'd never really want to be a singer, but I'd like to at least have my fantasy time without reality butting in.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-30 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
I do this, too, and I have zero singing skills. So I have to content myself with singing loudly and off key in the shower or in the car with the windows rolled up. :)

Fry and Davies came to Melbourne doing a QI Live show, and I did get 10 points from the audience for knowing the Welsh word for microwave - popty ping! One of my proudest moments.
