I am continually amazed that your Tories seem to be clinging so hard to American conservatism. It's like "NO GOD PLEASE DO NOT EMULATE US HERE THAT IS NOT THE THING YOU SHOULD BE COPYING!"

I blame a (now dead) guy named Levi Strauss. He came here in the 90s and started training (through the American Enterprise Institute) all these PoliSci nerds (or PoliSci washouts, actually) to become an extreme right fifth column in the Canadian Progressive Conservative. Because this Strauss guy and his followers so loathe the Westminster system (like every other dumb Tea Partier), and his Tea Party never got any traction south of the border, he figured he'd come up here, do a parasitizing of the PCs, and make Canada the 51st state. My opinion? They should do to Strauss' bones what they did to Wycliffe. (Hint: Wycliffe didn't deserve it. Strauss totally does.)

The only thing that will save us is the Supreme Court. At the cost of literally billions of taxpayer dollars, mind you. The only saving grace is that the Westminster system is like the Internet: When you try to destroy it, it goes around the damage. Something the American parasites will never be able to grasp, thank God.

Do you have a link to anything on this person? I'm more confused because... uh, well, the only Levi Strausses that I'm familiar with are Claude Levi-Strauss, the structuralist thinker, and Levi's, the jean manufacturer. And Google doesn't really bring anything up. Also, the narrative here seems to mirror the common narrative about Leo Strauss, the American conservative thinker, except that he was American. So I'm just really confused.

(Also, I'd be far less sanguine about the Westminster system than you are, but I suppose I'm just a cynic. Or I suppose blinded by my innate Americanness.)
