April Foolery

What are the April Fool's jokes you've run into? Online or real life? (It's April 1st already in places!)
cloud_riven: Stick-man styled Apollo Justice wearing a Santa hat, and also holding a giant candy cane staff. (Apollo Justice is pretty awesome)

Let's see, it just turned midnight here, and Facebook already has three new engagements (all between straight female friends) and a pregnancy announcement.

Always liked the Legend of Zelda trailer because it was so cool looking. https://youtu.be/HBCzkz3gHb8

Crap! Planning for Easter always gets in the way of doing a proper April Fool's prank!

I forgot about it!

Then again, I guess that Political Compass test was an April Fool's prank.

I'm pretty sure the Galactic Kids Next Door thing is going to be a big April Fools prank. It should be fun to watch /co/ meltdown because they think it's real.

My father tells this story about playing an elaborate prank on one of his dorm mates in college. The guy used to take a nap between his morning classes and his afternoon job, and he would always take his watch off and lay it on the shelf above his bed. Dad set the watch an hour ahead--and everybody else set their clocks an hour ahead too. Then they woke the guy up--"Aren't you supposed to be at work?" "SHIIIIT!" Out he ran; he was halfway to his job when the big clock struck the hour and he realized he'd been had.

He was pretty mad. But then, what must he do but go back to bed to finish his nap...and leave his watch on the shelf just as before. So they did it again, and he fell for it the second time too.

The ones Netflix does are pretty funny.

The one I used to do to my mom was screen shot her desktop and remove all her icons. Or get a second pill reminder container, and fill it with obvious not-her-pills, like MnMs.

One year is high school, some kids filled all of one of the lit teachers furniture with various candies. I mean, they stuffed the tissue box with fruit roll-ups, the chalk on the board was gum cigarettes. It wasn't my class, but it was pretty great.

It's apparently trigger-worthy now

A post appeared on my dash promising a "safe space" from April Foolery. 50,000 notes and counting. Thought for a moment that was itself a joke, but that's asking too much from Tumblr.

If that post is the one I think it is, all someone means by reblogging it is that they won't be posting things like screamers or pulling potentially cruel pranks like pretending to have died or trying to convince a friend that they don't actually know each other or something.

The usage of safe space is incorrect, but I really don't see how it's ridiculous to inform your followers that you won't be pulling any intentionally cruel pranks on April Fools'.

If you don't plan to do it, just don't do it. Proceed as usual. Announcing it and explicitly labeling the act as providing a safe space is patently ridiculous.

I already said that the usage of safe space in that post isn't correct. I just still don't see how announcing it is ridiculous. Unnecessary, perhaps, but hardly batshit. People give their followers a heads up on tons of things. They announce when they'll be running on a queue, when they'll be unable to answer messages, when they'll be liveblogging something, what their spoiler tags are... "I'm not going to post any screamers on April Fools' Day, don't worry!" just doesn't seem that weird, sorry.

Maybe so people won't be afraid to look at videos or gifs or to click links posted on that person's blog that day?

I'm sure it's not a joke in the sense of completely satire, but I would wager most people probably aren't seriously claiming April fools as trauma or w/e

I thought you were better than this. I have panic attacks over things like this. No it doesn't always happen and yes I take medicine and yes I'm fine going outside because when you have reactions you can't help, you learn to live without worrying about them every second. But what's so wrong with a warning? Why is seeing something that doesn't apply to you so offensive? If it doesn't affect you, WONDERFUL, you can ignore it.
