I'm writing a WIP and posting on AO3 to feel out the fandom. While I enjoy the story, the feedback it's gotten annoys me. As of now, a few chapters in, it has 120 kudos and 4 comments. 3 comments are asking for updates, and 1 asks a question that I answered in the author's note.

I'm giving it one more chapter before I pretty much say "fuck this fandom" and move on.

"Fuck this fandom," because they don't shower you with verbal praise? 120 kudos after a few chapters isn't anything to sneeze at. Face it nonny, reader interaction has changed for fanfic. You're far more likely to get kudos than comments. Just treat those "update?!" comments as if they were "I really like this story!" comments and keep writing if you like the source and your story.

But if you're just in it for virtual cookies and DGAF, get out I guess.

120 kudos is a hell of a lot, especially for such a new story. Stop being such a brat.

holy shit. 120 kudos for a few chapters? A few as in three or so? That's AMAZING. Unless it's an extremely populous fandom, in which even for a WIP with a new author and only a few chapters, that's pretty damn good. I can understand being annoyed by the comments asking for updates though, that does seem weird. Are other comments in the fandom like that? Maybe the fandom just subsists on kudos over actual comments.

The "update please" comments seem to be pretty normal, but they don't make up all the comments I see on other stories, not even for WIPs. I'm a little annoyed that people are acting like an author is just a fic making machine, though, which is the core of my complaint.

Had you made that complaint on its own, everyone would be on your side. Mentioning your gargantuan kudos count in the same breath does not endear you to many people.

I was just trying to show the disparity. It's a large fandom, so it's not that significant of a kudos count; I just know that people are reading and not really bothering to comment.

It just made you look ignorant and entitled. Better luck next time.
