Favorite Stores

What are some of your favorite stores, what kind are they and why do you like them so much? I'm fond of craft stores myself. Also World Market. World Market is amazing.

Office supplies. I could get lost forever. I'm not sure why, it's like... all those supplies. Waiting to be used. And I want to use them!

Oh yes. Office supply stores are the reasons I got so many notebooks. That and back to school sales.

I love Office Works (Australian chain of office supply stores). A few months ago I even found on that I don't have to walk halfway across a suburb to get to, as it's like, right next to the bus interchange in the middle of Brisbane.

The thing I love most about them though? I found a 500g jar of Jila mints in the tea room supplies department. After Coles removed the jars of Fernydale peppermints (same thing as Jila, just a different name), it really irritated me because those jars were far better value than the little pocket packs, but the 500g jars are massively better value than even the Fernydale jars.

Comic book stores. I love browsing the comics, figurines, books, etc. I'm also lucky that where I live (big, open minded city) I don't feel judged for being a woman in one of them.

Awesome! That sounds like a really nice place. I still need to try one of my local comic shops. Maybe see if I can find the IDW Transformers series so many of my friends follow.

Wal-Mart. Somehow all that plenitude cheers me up when I'm sad--like you could make a complete life out of the stuff on the shelves, your every need anticipated.

I know. When I lived in a small town I would always walk there and spend hours walking around, always finding something to keep me interested.

Barnes and Noble. I never buy anything though because I can't commit.

I love Barnes and Noble! When I moved to our current city I was so happy to find we had one nearby.

I sometimes buy stuff but really you can just hang out there and read the books on the shelves and its just as fun.

Used book stores! First of all, they're filled with books and that makes any room wonderful. But I love used ones especially because of the history behind them. I find so many interesting notes and things used as bookmarks inside.

That sounds cool. I've found a few really interesting books inside a used bookstore.

Yass, I love used book stores.

Small, independent toy shops. Sometimes they're just magical.

Also candy shops. It's just so pretty. Even though I very rarely buy anything, I love to look at it all.

Yeah. Those kinda shops can be interesting and sometimes you find unique stuff you can't find anywhere else.

Also CANDY SHOPS OMG. I love candy shops. So much color , so much food.

hahahahah I should probably stay out of candy shops.

Bookstores, in particular the two-storey Kinokuniya bookstore at the Petronas Towers. It has almost all the books that other bookstores around here have already dropped (looking at you, MPH Malaysia) and you can also find some great hidden gems here. Thanks to F!S, I'm now tempted to buy this one book about a closeted gay Japanese teen living in Militarist Japan.

MPH Malaysia... I love you, but I'm seeing a worrying rise in Islamic books at the expense of other shelves and titles.

Ohhh... well good that that store carries the books others have dropped. Is MPH a big chain?

2nd and Charles! It's a trade in store that specializes in pop culture and entertainment, and they always have a huge selection of everything I could ever want! Plus, every trip there is a new experience since they take trade ins. I rarely leave without purchasing something.

It's corny, but I love bookstores. I just feel a little more at peace any time I step into one, especially those cute independent used-book stores.
Also, I love florists or gardening stores. I just love walking in and taking a deep breath and smelling all the earthy stuff. Sadly, I always end up killing any plants I try to raise, but going in the stores for a minute makes me feel like a pro gardener!

Art supply and stationary stores. I like to touch everything, plus they always smell so good.

Used game shops too. I don't buy anything, but I love to see how they place their displays, what cool unsellabe decor they have (posters, cardboard people, R.O.B.s),and also I like to touch everything. Carts are the nicest to feel up.

And pawn shops. Touch touch touch.

Farmers markets too ofc. Less touching, but more eating, which is a kind of touching.

Bookstores, natch. Used bookstores because they're full of bargains and I love gently worn books. Aldi because it's full of cheap, delicious food. Craft stores because of all the neat supplies and beautiful fabric.

Lisa Frank Icons <3

Also...Hmm, Target and Wal-mart are probably my favorite from the standpoint of time wasting. There's so much different stuff that it's easy to find something interesting to look at.

Otherwise? Book stores. My mother was a bookstore manager when I was growing, so they're places where I feel really comfortable...Plus I can always find *something* I want to add to my library~!

Art, stationary, electronics, some departments in department stores always draw me, game stores, especially EB Games (I have to visit them tomorrow, The Sims has an expansion pack out), toy stores, dedicated book stores (not crappy discount book stores that just have the latest popular stuff or the books that didn't sell), music stores, fabric stores.

Actually probably the only stores I don't have much use for is clothing stores. This is because I am large-sized and often can't get ready-made stuff that fits. Usually even dedicated large sizes stores don't go up to my size, and I only just scrape in to the size range of the big department stores. Unfortunately fabric stores are not keeping much in the way of stretch fabrics anymore either, at least not the types I would regularly wear. Last time I went to Spotlight (Aussie fabric/craft/haberdashery/homewares chain) I couldn't find any rugby knit or interlock so I resorted to getting stretch denim. I had better luck on interlock at Lincraft!

I will however make special mention of Asian grocery stores. There are just some foods that you can't get elsewhere.
