It actually probably is going too far to say it's utterly meaningless, because there are probably tines when you can point at a person and say they're a hipster and people can reasonably get what you mean. Although I couldn't define it in words.

But when it's being used to apparently mean some kind of high school clique, or people who like nice coffeeshops as apparently in OP, I find it hard to take it seriously.

Same. I mean, I have a vague idea (mostly that it's connected with liking things ironically?), but no more than that.

AFAIK, that's only for things that are mainstream. If it's popular, a hipster likes it ironically; they only un-ironically like a thing if nobody has ever heard of it.

Me too!

I have no idea what hipsters are except that some people don't like them. Every time I see a picture of a "hipster" they just look like a normal person to me.

That's kind of how everyone dresses round here, and I just live in a quiet little European seaside town.
