Athos is the only one who looks white. Aramis is latino, Porthos is black and d'Artagnan is Italian iirc but he doesn't look white.

The first time I watched the show, I didn't even notice Porthos was black, I just thought he was tanned or something, but I was surprised because I thought d'Artagnan was Indian. Weird, right?

(And ib4 someone feels the need to say that Italian is white, I know, I'm European. He just didn't look like he was, that's all. And that's not a criticism, I like that the show is diverse. And d'Artagnan should look tanned since he's Gascon anyway.)

Oh, this bullshit right here is of endless frustration to me that some considered him a PoC. dies he? I highly fucking doubt it. He's a British man of southern Italian and Sicilian descent. It's great having representation of southern Italians but he's still not a PoC.

Well, technically, he's not full white. According to the old Hollywood system Southern Italian (along with Greek, Turkish, Palestinian, that sort of color), would only qualify as "dirty" white and would be considered for roles as peasants, arabs (but not persian), and red indian. You'd need a full white for a musketeer and main cast member. Still, dirty white beats black, any variety of asian, and irish. Everything beats Irish. If you are doing a picture about Irish, you want a Scotsman for leading roles.

It's not Hollywood though. It's a British TV show. Europeans don't consider southern Europeans POC despite them not having lily white skin, and neither do Southern Europeans IN EUROPE consider themselves POC. Sorry, but that's just how it is.

Not to mention nobody gives a shit if you're Italian, latino or Hispanic in Europe (imagine that, what with Italy Spain and Portugal being right here...). Santiago Cabrera openly said he came to work in Europe because he actually gets proper roles here, as opposed to the stereotypical "latin lover" stuff he would get in the USA.

Which is not to say there's no racism or xenophobia in Europe. But it does work differently.
