If sexuality related stuff comes up, like the topic of girlfriends or boyfriends, I'm more likely to coorect people I don't know all that well that I'm gay, rather than I'm actually bi. Unless it's friends, someone I'm interested in, or the lgbt friendly spaces I've decided to be honest in, I don't want them to know I'm bi.I feel like it gives me more credibility as being queer, and it helps as a preemptive "don't be surprised if I call someone a cutie in a not so innocent way."

That's kind of shitty. I openly identify as bisexual and I hate that when other people do this it perpetuates the myth that my sexuality is not a "real" sexuality, and that some day I'm just going to have to admit I'm either gay or experimenting.

On the broad scale I feel pretty guilty. Personally though, I don't think everyone I meet has to know. A lot of it is not correcting people and letting them assume or put together what two and two they think they have. I'd rather not deal with stranger's inevitable "but you're with a guy. Are you just saying that?", "Does your girlfriend know?", or "You don't seem bi. Are you sure?"

I am nowhere near being an activist since I choose where I educate (said places irl that are mostly judge free, and are there to educate).

Well obviously no one should really feel like they're obligated to walk into the room and be like "Excuse me everyone, may I have your attention..." And I do understand the safety reasons involved with letting potentially disagreeable people assume what they want to about your sexuality.

On the other hand, the queer community is a bunch of fucks about us at the best time and are - in my experience - even more likely to be biphobic than your average straight person. Purposefully erasing your sexuality because you think one of them might get in a twist about it is just letting that kind of stupid bigotry win.

At this point in my life, I see being openly bi as relevant to others' curiosity when my next partner isn't the same sex as the last. Curbing the lying is more my priority, even if being comfortably invisible is still an option.

Jfc this is so true I hate that I'm still surprised. I actually prefer the venom from a straight person over a gay one (in my case, mostly from women).

That's the thing with us bi women, most of the hate almost always IS from women. Lesbians think we exist just to fuck with them. And jesus fuck, I came across a woman not that long ago who said she wouldn't want to be in a relationship with a woman who'd been with a guy because the thought of sleeping with someone who'd had a dick in her at one point was disgusting. Women who've had sex with guys are "ruined" in her opinion. Like are you fucking serious? You just took one of the most hugely patriarchal bullshit slut-shaming attitudes, adapted it for yourself, and think it's okay because you're queer. Yeah, fuck you, you bigoted fuck.

I get what you're saying, I really do, but some people, after getting shit on over and over and over again and being miserable would much rather do what they have to do to make the shit stop then keep playing the martyr for the cause. I can't blame bi people for jumping back in the closet after years of being beaten down from assholes on all sides.
