So saying Voldemort doesn't exist and that Harry Potter is a work of fiction = edgy

What reality do you live in?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I tip my fedora to you, good sir.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
>look mom, I posted a meme!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
M'lady!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't live in a reality where scholars believe that there was a historical Harry Potter.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't live in a reality where scholars believe that Jesus of Nazareth had magical powers.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
No but you do live in one where it's accepted that there was a historical Jesus ergo he's not on the same level of Harry Potter.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I live in a reality where it's accepted that there was a historical Abraham Lincoln, so I guess I can't mock anyone for thinking Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is factual?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
If you want to use false equivalences to be an asshole to religious people nothing's stopping you?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
We're not saying that Abraham Lincoln was a vampire hunter.

What we're saying is "if he was, the book/movie is how it could've gone down."

When historians accept that there was a historical Jesus, what that really means is that there isn't really any evidence either way, and it's not too farfetched that there was a rabbi named Yeshua ben Yosef who pissed off the Romans, and hey, if there's smoke there must be fire, right?

Even if there was a real Yeshua ben Yosef, Rebel Rabbi, they don't think that he was raised from the dead, or that he said most of what the Bible he said.

Somehow I doubt that sums up the hundreds of volumes written by religious scholars on the matter but what've floats your boat

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
lol at equating religious scholars to historians, but w/e

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Both have written about Jesus so what's the difference?

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
da One group goes to the discussion with the belief that Jesus lived, died, came back and was the son of God. The other doesn't. That's a pretty big difference.

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Like I said both groups have written extensively about Jesus. So scholars and historians are both interchangeable for this argument.

Re: nayrt

They're really not though, because the original argument was about whether or not Jesus is accepted as a real historical figure. The writings of religious scholars don't really matter for that because they start out accepting that Jesus is real, and filter evidence through that lens.
