That's a pretty common opinion in the part of fandom I hang out, so you're not alone. *g* I can't help but love him, though - he reminds me so much of the Kirk from the novels. And that was the Kirk I got to know first, years before I ever watched a single episode, so the nostalgia factor is huge for me. And it doesn't hurt that I find him hot, too. *g*

I don't know which of the novels you were reading, but I can assure you that even the Kirk of the worst novels (How Much For Just The Planet), are nothing like that yahoo up there. When they put this version of Kirk on a starship, a village somewhere lost its idiot.

Excuse you, How Much for Just the Planet is a fucking masrerpiece.

Right?

Well, I read them when I was thirteen/fourteen (25 years ago), so I wouldn't swear an oath on my interpretation from back then. *g* But yeah, when I watched the first Reboot movie he reminded me of the Kirk from the novels, and that's what stuck with me.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah the film reminded you of when you were at your most simplistic in life. That explains so much.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
DA If this is a snide comment then just jog on, man. Most people enjoy things that remind them of when life was simple or good.

Jog on? Why so ableist?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It does mean that the film is pretty shallow and simplistic too, just to hit that sweetspot for the OP.

NEWBIE TROLL DETECTED

warning warning

An experienced troll would have gone for the implied sexism of the "man" rather than the ableism. F!S knows ableism is just an ism too far, but we still get some traction out of old fashioned sexism. Now get back in the kitchen and make me a sammitch.

This whole attempt at wank is deeply deeply ironic because 1) I have a physical disability that impairs the movement of my legs (jog on is just common speak where I'm from); 2) I'm a woman, and; 3) I HATE the bloody reboot films. Hah.

You must have a really low bar for trolls. Nobody here would bite that.

Sure they would. F!S is really hyper sensitive over accusations of sexism.

...where do you usually hang out??

You are being trolled, and proving AYRT's point.

Being trolled, probably.

Proving AIRT's point...how exactly??

[personal profile] dancing_serpent 2015-04-05 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly, but I'm not sure that was when I was the most simplistic - I think I needed a break from my quest-for-meaning-days when I was around eleven/twelve (bad times), and started looking for some bit of lighter reading, and those novels fit rather well.

I like him because I find him hot and can easily see him as fanfic Kirk in my favorite aliens-made-them-do-it. With Bones, preferably. New-Bones.

Yeah, I prefer him with Bones - Urban!Bones - as well. *g*
