Baseball begins!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
•Who'll win tonight (Cards/Cubs)? Are the Cubs going to be for real?

•What are your World Series predictions?

•What team will surprise this year?

•Most underrated player you wish were on your team? (You can pick 2 here, pitcher/position player.)

HAPPY BASEBALL SEASON, F!S

Wait, the Cubs are a baseball team? For some reason I always thought they were football. Huh.

I believe you are thinking of DA BEARS.

I'm just excited that I'm going to a Yankees/Phillies game later on. I'm not a huge baseball fan but I very much enjoy going to the games.

I don't really care about sports but I live near Fenway Park so it's hard not to pick up at least some sentiment for the Red Sox. I find it kind of hilarious how they flip between "meh, unremarkable except for having a lot of rabid fans" and "best team omg totally on a roll gonna crush those playoffs".

I used to live by Fenway! I could see the upper decks from my dorm room window.

It's better than a chocolate bunny!

-The Cubs will win tonight, but will not make the Wild Card.

-Nats beat Mariners in 5 games.

-AL Central will be really damn close, possibly requiring a play-in for second Wild Card. Padres have a chance. Blue Jays will look good, then collapse again.

-Ooh, good question. As much as I should be snagging a 2B, I want Jonathan Lucroy. Pitching, hmm... does Yusmeiro Petit still count as underrated? I love the idea of Petit-Smith-Street.

Petit's a really weird pitcher. He's so uneven - like, he has these stellar, stellar games and then he'll just randomly scuffle completely. For someone who's been as important as he has been at times for the Giants, he's also had to come back from being totally marginal and almost off the team a bunch. But a great guy and really fun to watch.

Lucroy is just amazing.

Oh this is nothing new for us! The Angels' bullpen is better than it was a year ago this time, but I still think we don't have a good spot-starter/long-relief guy for our rotation unknowns. And I mean we're running with Hector Santiago as 4th starter and NO #5 at this moment. Eeesh...

So yeah, I think Petit could slot in nicely with Salas (also with his problems) and Morin (still really young, but with potential). Without your guy, I'll be interested to see if Drew Rucinski might be our bullpen breakout for 2015.

...Lucroy is frickin' dreamy.

Yeah, that makes sense. It's definitely useful to have a guy who can come in and throw an acceptable spot start or four or five innings of solid relief or whatever. I think you guys have enough on the batting end to be okay, though. I mean, having the best player in baseball has to count for something, right?

And Lucroy is definitely a handsome guy. I mean, he's no Buster Posey, but...

yayayayayayayay baseball's here! I'm so excited. Even if I missed the actual opening day game due to being busy (and let me just say in passing that it marginally bums me out that the Reds aren't opening the season anymore, but what can you do).

- World Series: Nationals over Red Sox in 7.

- Surprise team: The White Sox. Chris Sale is one of the most fun pitchers in the game to watch, Abreu's a great hitter, and they just have a surprising amount of talent. And also that division seems more open than people think.

The teams that are popular picks as sleepers that I'm pretty cold on are the Cubs (I think they're still a year or two away - I think their young hitters will need time to adjust to the majors and I still don't trust their pitching) and the Padres (they look good on paper but I think they'll have a lot of issues in practice, kind of like the Blue Jays the last couple years).

- Underrated players: that's a tough one... maybe Kyle Seager to take over at third - does he still count as underrated? And for pitcher, I'm going to go with Mark Buehrle, because he is and will always be incredibly awesome.

To reiterate: yayayayayayay baseball!
