Sometimes, in life, people will like things that you dislike.

And sometimes, people will dislike things that you like.

There is NOTHING you can do about it. No amount of whining or writing up obsessive screeds or shouting "WELL YOU HAVE BAD TASTE" will change that. Ever. All it winds up doing is making you look like a little baby who's so emotionally fragile that you can't take it when someone doesn't agree with you.

Actually no. I will not. Because the new movies betray everything Star Trek stood for so they could be action movies in space instead of sci-fi moves with a soul. If you like Nu!Trek you do not actually like Star Trek. You like flashy action movies in space. There is nothing wrong with that. But it is not Star Trek.

But that doesn't make sense, because there are people who like both the old Star Trek and the new Star Trek. Obviously, despite liking Nu!Trek, those people do actually like Star Trek, too.

Also, who gives a shit? It's just a bunch of TV shows and movies. None of it means anything. In 200 years, everyone will have forgotten all of it.

Perspective cuts both ways. Compared to the un-/importance of me changing my bedsheets within the next 24 hours? year? (which I'm personally happy do discuss btw), the worthiness of Old Testament Trek vs. NuTrek affects millions of people and the discussion spans decades. Alien anthropologists are bound to conclude that this is Important Stuff.

Oh shut up. I'm a Trek fan--a TOS fan--from WAY back. I guarantee I've been a TOS fan for much longer than you. I loved the reboot (although not ID). Seriously just shut the fuck up and stop saying dumb things like if you like this, you can't like that. You sound 6.

All it winds up doing is making you look like a little baby who's so emotionally fragile that you can't take it when someone doesn't agree with you.

And screaming at people in capslock to stop arguing makes you look different ... how? At least the people arguing are thick skinned enough to argue, instead of throwing a temper tantrum and demanding everyone else shut up.

I have days where I'm conflict-avoidant and desperately want not to have to listen to arguments either. Thing is, on days like that mostly what I do is stay away from threads with arguments in them. Works in RL too, if in something of a more passive-aggressive way since people in RL actually have to see you leaving, while in an anon thread nobody even has to know you were there in the first place.

This isn't even a new or important argument. Honey, it ain't worth the tantrum.
