Ach, sorry, the idea of Jeeves and Wooster breaking that master-servant balance and getting it on would be like seeing Holmes kiss Watson (oh, seeing as you don't know me, that idea horrfies me to my very core :D)

I just wish that if people can't write in the style of Wodehouse, they shouldn't compensate by putting in loads of cheap comment-grabbing angst. IMO, obviously. And I'm so brave I've got anon on :D

Ah, I understand. In that case, I don't think you would be able to get into the Jeeves & Wooster online fandom anyway, since it's very much dominated by slash.
However, I'm going to try again with more fic recs (like I said, I can't resist), non-slash this time, just in the hopes of easing your bitterness towards the fandom and showing that it's not all dreck. (Will do this after I've gotten a little sleep, since I don't want to be reccing while my judgment is impaired...)

Re: Holmes/Watson and Jeeves/Wooster squick, I must confess that I've been quietly 'shipping Holmes and Watson for years (I blame the fact that the first Holmes story I ever read was The Three Garridebs, as a required reading in sixth grade, and it had the mushiest Holmes and Watson scene ever). However, I totally understand the horror that this might evoke in people with more purist tendencies than I, and I totally respect your right to be squicked by both H/W and J/W. XD

I don't object to slash in general. I don't read it, but I certainly don't have any moral objection to it or anything.

I guess it just reminds me of when I was younger, I had tons of boy friends (separate words, you understand ;D) and everyone would be like "You must fancy him! Why do you spend so much time with him/lend him books/go round his house?". No-one seemed to appreciate the beauty of platonic friendship, and it still affects me, I guess.

The Three Garridebs is beautiful, isn't it? But I guess the reason I well up when I read that scene is because Holmes could 'love' a friend that much without the normal prerequisite of romantic attachment. I don't know ... I'm fine with House slash, and can even see it as feasible. But stay away from my Victorian/Edwardian friendships! :D
