Are you quite sure it wasn't just an excuse to cheat? because people come up with all kinds of excuses to cheat, and they often revolve around the person they're cheating with providing something their actual SO does not - be it some kind of emotional support, some kind of sexytime variation, some kind of personality dynamic, etc. It's still cheating and it's still shitty.

Anybody who cheats is an asshole, regardless of their sexual preference/s and ability to maintain multiple relationships. Infidelity is infidelity, hands-down, no discussion, including in the context of polyamoury.
