Same.

And it's all because of Mommy and Daddy too.

Although I will say that they worked their way up from basically NOTHING and made ENORMOUS sacrifices.

I basically didn't see my dad at all for the first ten years of my life.

But now I've got almost half a million dollars to my name. And I'm not even 25 yet. But I have so much horrible anxiety about being poor from reading about it that I basically don't spend it -- it just sits and accrues interest.

Even at my job -- I make about $24,000 a year right now and I save over $11,000 of that every year.

i've always been poor, it's not the worst once you have your health and your passions, but i daydream about being in your situation daily ngl

I'm like you. Even when I was only making ~$18/year on a student stipend for grad studies I still tried to save $8-10K of that. I rented the cheapest apartment I could find that was still near the school and not a total dive, and only spend about $5/day on food. I feel uncomfortable if I'm not saving money, because my parents were desperately poor when I was young.

I know that feel. I got a large inheritance when I was 19 after growing up poor (welfare family). I was paranoid about every cent I spent, and now that it's all gone (I spent most of it on school) I go back and re-think everything I spent it on and regret that I wasn't more frugal. Now that I have a job, I'm basically a Moustachian (http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/).

I inherited absolutely nothing; I have saved up a downpayment for a home by doing pretty much exactly what Mr. Moustache seems to describe: just never buying any frivolous shit I'm not going to use, and always getting the cheapest thing possible, so long as it's not of drastically inferior quality. Keep wearing clothing until it falls apart, don't eat out unless it's a special occasion, etc. Also creating a savings schedule and plan and sticking to it, which various (lol) achievements unlocked along the way.

The crazy thing is that I still have expensive hobbies and travel and everything. Just not spending money on frivolous shit makes or breaks your budget and making sure the things you must (food, clothing, housing, heat, internet, etc.) buy are well below what you can afford is all that seems to matter.
