It's funny how even though your secret doesn't mention slash everyone's all YEAH BUT SLASH IS BAD TOO THOUGH

Please, everyone, calm your hateboners

That puzzled me a bit too.

Like with Mako/Korra, the alternative popular (and canon) pairing is femmeslash anyway.

And the OP just said that the couples were boring. Those particular pairings too -- not het in general so I'm kind of baffled as well as to why the reaction was to suddenly start getting on slash's case.

(Even though, in fairness, a lot of slash is decidedly terrible, it seems silly to me to compare fan works to professional writing).

Read the secret again dude. They're talking about canon het on general, and have those pairings as examples.

and you know this because?

And just as badly written, but you notice the secret makes no mention of that. So yeah, it's not illogical that people came to the conclusion OP was talking about het pairings solely (and the "badly written het" is usually grudgey-slash-fan speak for "canon het", since they're clearly not talking about fanon, where slash has bad writing in spades too).

Even though, in fairness, a lot of slash is decidedly terrible, it seems silly to me to compare fan works to professional writing.

I never get this viewpoint. Bad writing is bad writing, main difference is that fan writers are 10,000x more sensitive about hearing that. And yeah, I get that canon writers are getting paid to write, but if that apparently doesn't make the writing any better, and canon is not the only place one is exposed to bad writing for a given ship, the comparison seems legit.

da fair enough. and admittedly this is just me but i don't really get why people ship mako/korra either as well as various other het ships i won't mention here and i'm primary a het/femslash shipper who finds slash ships uninteresting 99% of the time. not saying this applies to op but there are all kinds of shippers out there with their own opinions about such and such and op could be anything really.

Tbh, the slash vs het vibes are strong here. No need to specify 'het' if that wasn't the case. If someone makes it specific to het couples like OP is doing, it's not a big stretch to assume they like slash instead and while they question why het fans like their ships, they don't think that some of the most popular slash ships are bad no mayter how ridiculous and baseless many they are.
