What's even more frustrating is when they do that with real people in history. Yes, it's possible that a woman who liked women only got married to a man to keep up the appearance of being straight in public, and yes, it's also possible that she was genuinely attracted to her husband. Can we not pretend we know for sure which one it was unless we have some words from the person herself to go on?

Seriously! And it's pretty pointless since as you said, we don't have word from the person, so we can never really know. I guess people place too much importance on this sort of thing.
