(Anonymous) 2015-04-10 03:26 am (UTC)(link)Here's the short of his side. His wife was very much in the wrong on this. However, she had a very good lawyer who argued that she needed a very generous alimony to maintain lifestyle on top of the child support. The alimony and child support went into the millions (literally). He even argued to the judge that he couldn't possibly pay this. However, the payments were calculated based on a formula and based on what he was making when he was gainfully employed. As another person pointed out, he was at the peak of his career. But even then, there'd be no way that he could possibly pay that amount. His wife had the kids he'd take care of when she was traveling with another.
Still, he tried to pay what he could. After he lost his steady work, the alimony was even more exorbitant, but he was locked in. He literally couldn't make the payments, causing him to be arrested, and therefore making it even harder for him to make the payments.
So, he went to America. At least here, it'll be easier for him to make the payments. Dave Foley is the opposite of a deadbeat dad.
