I don't think there's anything wrong with that. The important line of distinction is the line where you understand that you don't really know the person and that you're not actually friends. But to be honest, feeling like you could be friends with a celebrity outside of the context of fandom and fame doesn't seem that much different from feeling like you could be good friends with a friend of a friend or someone you don't know that well IRL.

And honestly? I think that feeling like 'we could be friends' is a whole lot healthier and realistic (for a given value of said things) than 'we would fall truly, madly, deeply in love forever and ever and ever!!!!'

Except we make up a lot of the personality we invest actors/celebrities with, we don't actually know them as much as we know a friend of a friend.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, it's a perfectly healthy form of fantasy. But we do pretty much invent them as our own fictional characters, peppered with our impressions from interviews etc.

Oh I agree (this is what I meant by referencing the fact that you can't really know the person). But I do think, although the relationship is more distant than a friend of a friend, it's like that in certain ways. Of course it's true that all we have is a certain image formed in our heads from press publications and things like that, but again, I don't think it's the worst or most absurd thing.

i'm trying so hard to keep rl and kayfabe separate in this fandom, let me tell you. it's very difficult as the line between rl and kayfabe gets very blurry! i'm actively avoiding finding out rl info so i can keep my platonic and romantic crushes on the character and not the person.
