And I'm like... it wasn't about the girl, it was supposed to illuminate Groot's character. It was setting up the crash later. And it did. And I love it.

Groot's giving nature is actually established even earlier, when he rips the battery out of the Kyln's command center. The smile on his face as he holds it out to show Rocket is practically the same one he has when he gives the girl a flower on Knowhere.

Peter wasn't that far off with his Giving Tree remark! :)

Groot likes to make people happy, period, and he's really damn good at it.

There was a secret back in March where someone headcanoned him as a nonverbal autistic person and I can kind of see it now. Somebody wrote a fic with that headcanon somewhere. I think it's in the thread for that secret but I can't remember which day it was.

Anyhow, Groot love for everyone!

I read that fic, it's one of Cyndi's (i_love_piccolo on LJ). She's autistic herself.
