barest bones version of thesis: Job wants answers so he can have closure; acknowledges ultimaltely that there won't be answers, achieves peace//Ahab wants blood, gets blood

also, Job is not godly and God is and therefore he's kind of too small to factor??//the whale does not have it out for Ahab, he's literally a whale

also, knowability is not man's prerogative, etc etc

I'm a theology major on senior spring I'm so sorry

OP eeehhh i'd say Job did trip up in assuming he understood on some level God's system of retributive justice but mostly he was just searching for answers and God was like tf are you to play lawyer with me diD YOU KNOW I LITERALLY INVENTED WHALES

1. Moby-Dick is a whale. A leviathan is a sea creature. Is that what you meant?

2. On a broader level: MD causes senseless suffering, is unknowable (comes from the vastness of the sea, which man cannot fully see/comprehend), his motives make sense to him but not man; God causes "senseless" suffering, is unknowable, his motives make sense to him but not man???
