Out of the two Regina is the only one who has shown any commitment to self improvement.

Regina has tried to get to her happy ending by following the rules, and making amends... Rumple chooses the quick/easy route every time because he will always be a coward, and he can never have enough power.

I'm not a Regina-stan and as I said elsewhere I'd rather ship Emma, and Elsa than Emma/Regina...

But yeah Regina's miles ahead of Rumple on the path to becoming a decent person, and always will be. I agree with you.

I think they'll always use Rumple as fodder to be the one who screws shit up, but at the same time they try their damnedest to make him the nicest villain on the block who deserves his happy ending the most. He's that one villain that can always be a dick and get away with it.

I do feel slightly bad because Robert seems so sad with how they've played his character out.

He kinda was, but no one forced him to have to imprison the fairies, and the apprentice, and try to kill Hook to free himself from the dagger. No one forced him to switch his dagger for a fake in the first place.

They said it in the first half of season 4, Rumple is a villain because he wants everything, and won't settle for anything less.

Yes. At least Regina tries, and now Rumple pulling this shit to make her evil against her choice? Yet, he's not at fault because Zelena's making it happen. OUAT sure has a hate boner for the women and like to play the men innocent and flawless. And the fandom seems to follow suit in believe what the spoon feed us.

I don't ship SwanQueen either, and certainly don't believe the writers will give us them being a couple. Same way they screw jobed us with Mulan and Aurora. It will be some abstract minimalistic thing with Swan Queen so they can get asspats on gay representation.

I just don't understand why everyone gets it stuck in their crawl about how deserves a happy ending and who doesn't.

Wait are we watching the same show? Rumple is the catalyst for every bad thing that happened in the show ever, (well now I guess the author is responsible for some of it, but hey he's a man too). I can see that certain people in the fandom think he's pure an innocent and want to give him hugs and puppies, and rainbow gumdrops, but I don't see the show runners thinking he's better than Regina?

The women might be flawed, but everyone in this show is acting out of love or their own definition of it... except really Rumple has no such excuse anymore... his wife doesn't want to be with him, and his son is dead... there is nothing for him to fight for anymore, but spite.

That does not make him endearing, at least not intentionally.

He's only in the situation with Zelena because he fucked up so badly that he was exiled from Storybrooke in the first place though.
