34: It's probably a bad idea to take F!S at face value. A lot of people have admitted to making secrets up just to see what the reaction is. A lot of people probably post unpopular or minority or strange opinions just so that somebody will say "YES OMG ME TOO!". Doesn't have to mean it's really a "secret", per se... just that they'll get a better reaction here than on their own journals.

(I've been really tempted to do a secret about how fucking stupid I think the Temeraire books are, which... I don't keep my mouth shut about that, so technically it's not a secret, but everyone on my flist is a Novik fan, so if I say "man, Throne of Jade is soooo boring", I won't get much response; if I say it here there's probably somebody out of this comm's 2000+ watchers who agrees with me.)

...though, all that said, some people are just crazy. Good luck with the thesis!

In one of the compilation shows, Hugh Dennis was stroking Frankie Boyle's ear, prompting Frankie to mention that he'd read a slashfic (definitely not by me) about them in which Hugh was 'the receiver'.

I'm not sure what question you're asking here. It seemed to me that basing a thesis on people's behaviour on F!S was a little foolish if it involved taking it all on face value. The data wouldn't mean what you'd claim they meant.

This, of course, is assuming that the thesis is not just an excuse (hey, "it was a sociological experiment!" is one of the favourite excuses of the troll); but then, the fact that I responded as if the thesis were real doesn't mean I actually think it is. Like I said, don't always take stuff at face value.

(Man, how bored am I that this comment even seemed worth making?)

Also, "people are crazy" is always true. Yay human nature!
