So your problem is mostly with people who make horrible OCs, who are heavily based off of non-OCs? I mean, I can see your point there. I don't think anyone would be particularly fond of that, because that just screams Gary Stu, and no one likes to play with one of those.

I can't say I agree with you on your other points, though. I think good RPers work just as hard as good fanfic writers, in that they actively do research, must have good writing skills, and try really hard to make their characterization spot-on. And just like there is bad fanfic, there is also bad RP. It's true that a bad RPer can affect other people in the game, but, well, that's what a moderator or a GM is there for, right? And it's ultimately my choice who I RP with, just like it's my choice whose fanfics I read.

Also, you could argue that people who come up with OCs just so they don't have to worry about being OOC are just as lazy as people who play a poor rip-off of Squall or whoever else. It all boils down to slacking off on characterization somehow.

But, I think we both agree that no one likes a lazy RPer, no matter what kind of character they play. xD;
