I am not at all cynical about asexuality but there are some obnoxiously insistent people on the subject of fictional characters. Like the Hunger Games fans who think it's totally spelled out that Katniss is asexual because she couldn't get excited about the prospect of romance in the midst of her entire personal life being commodified and constantly endangered.

Yeah. Your interpretation is your interpretation but don't go off that it's the only interpretation and I'm oppressing you so much by considering alternatives.

(Generic indefinite you BTW.)

Katniss is pretty much aromantic, though I don't know if she's asexual or not, since her sexuality isn't really talked about at all.

We're talking about how a person, in the epilogue, said her spouse basically "convinced" her to get married/have kids.

I doubt Suzanne Collins intended that. She ain't that progressive.

I would think Katniss is post-traumatic, mostly?

This. Trauma can fuck up your ability to have sex or relationships.

Uhhh, are you saying that everyone who doesn't want to get married and have kids with their SO is aromantic?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-15 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
...nnnnnnnnnno.

We're talking about a person who, throughout the trilogy, repeatedly stated that she considers herself incapable of pretty much ANY human relationships explicitly because she's too damaged by her traumas and too cynical and demoralized by living in a world where her people are horribly oppressed and children (especially the children of Victors like herself) are annually slaughtered for entertainment.

I also continue to be unimpressed by people who insist that the only acceptable way to change your mind is in a vacuum void of any consideration of your loved ones' desires or arguments, or else it's actually coersion and you're basically a victim. Please grow up.

I could much more easily buy aromantic, but the text isn't explicitly suggesting it without her trauma being the more logical context. She came to the decision to commit to Peeta without any coercion; wishywashily having kids has little do with the subject of romance/sex.

People on tumblr reaaaaally are trying to push Katniss as their aromantic icon.
