since you claim to not be trolling...

But I want to share my masturbation fantasies with the world? And lots of people like to read about my mastubation fantasies.

I don't even get your use of the word "delusions?" Very rarely are shippers deluding themselves of anything... we know the characters we ship aren't fucking or going to be fucking.

a lot of this is hyperbole

i don't actually care if you like the idea of character x/character y and share it with other people, my issue is bringing into discussions about the show

imagine if most discussions about your favorite thing ever were devolved socks character x wore

and people got particularly nasty about if character x wore argyle

most the fanworks are about sock shopping

even when the show itself has very little to do with sock wearing

this is how i feel about most of fandom

most shippers are not deluding themselves that their ship will happen, but it feels incredibly alienating to me when this is the main subject women dominated fan spaces want to discuss

and it's probably a little "wah wah, people aren't catering to MY needs"

but it still sucks

ah, well. I get that. I'm sorry fandom sucks for you, anon.

I like your comparison. But if wearing argyle socks were essential to the continuation of the human race, you'd have a better analogy.

There's a reason sex urges itself into most people's consciousness on a regular basis, no matter how boring that may be for those not involved.

most books/shows/movies that fandom gloms onto aren't about food or argyle socks. they do, however, usually involve a focus on (or at least elements of) interpersonal relationships. romance and sex may not be human needs, but they are extremely common human wants, and the kind of human who wants them often wants them so keenly that they see it as a need. it's unfortunate for people like shippers-ruin-everything!anon, but it's unsurprising that shippers get so caught up in the interpersonal relationship aspect of their fandom.
