Re: going anon for this

Below age 25 is pushing it for me. I know accidents happen, but if a person voluntarily decides to have a child at that age... just no.

I'm a little surprised by the responses that judge the 35+ crowd, though. How old are you guys, out of curiosity? Lots of people (men AND women) find it difficult to get through school, get a decent job, pay off student loans, get a stable relationship much before age 30. Especially in this economy. It's not ideal, but a lot of women don't have much choice. If they want a family, they're probably going to be starting it in their early 30s.

Agreed with you on the 35+ judginess - I find it a bit shocking, as a woman who (gasp!) decided to get through my education and start my career before having kids, that this has such a negative association. When people talk about "skyrocketing" odds of birth defects, it's literally the difference of going from, say, a 0.01% chance of something happening to a 0.015% or 0.1% chance. All you whippersnappers need to get a grip.

But, but...when your kids are teenagers, they'll have...a FIFTY YEAR OLD MOM. And what if your kids don't have kids of their own until they're in their thirties! You'd be 70 by that time, and you might even DIE, which would mean that your grandchildren would never know their grandma, a terrible thought!

(In case it's not obvious, these are all objections that I've heard, and I think they're all completely ridiculous.)

Why? That person is an adult already.
