Judging older mothers because "they might be dead" earlier than "usual" in a child's life seems ridiculous to me. My mother had me at an age considered acceptably "young", but died at 32. I don't see how losing her would be any different if she'd been older at the time. Life's a bitch like that.

By contrast, I have a friend who was a "late life accident" whose parents have outlived most grandparents- she's in her 20s, they're in their 90s and show no signs of slowing down.

People have these knee-jerk reactions to ages - no, not everybody older is unhealthy, no not everybody young has a great life expectancy, not everybody older is necessarily more mature or a fitter parent, not everybody younger is naive or stupid. Financial security? Also not intrinsically linked to age.
