Re: Do I take the offer or not?

It depends on how important working out is for you, and how likely you are to actually get a job abroad after summer (as opposed to just thinking about trying to get a job abroad after summer). Is working out something you need to be doing for your health, or otherwise a major priority in your life right now, or is it just something you'd like to do, but with no particular urgency? Similarly, is working abroad something you've just toyed with doing ~someday, or have you taken major steps to get a job abroad after this summer, and there's a specific opportunity you have your eye on that won't be there next year?

- It is important health-wise, in the sense that I need to lose weight for actual medical reasons, and a higher level of fitness would be beneficial, too. Very short version: I have health issues that are most likely weight- related, and I have a joint condition that isn't being helped by the weight, and would benefit from better musculature. I've already been working on losing weight, but I'm plateau-ing, and I want to find something that helps before I lose motivation again.

- The job thing: it's about as realistic as getting a job here (which is slim). The trouble is that, save for a few freelance gigs, I've been unemployerd for over a year with no real prospects of a decent job. I feel like my chances might be better elsewhere, and don't want to spend another year unemployed. I've done a temporary job abroad, and feel life this is a venue to pursue, but there's no concrete offer. I will be applying in a few places as a foreign language teacher (I have the forms and everything), but I have no idea how realistic it is. But once summer ends, my evening course will be done, and I have one less thing to keep me here.

I notice that up above, you've described how the gym fees are structured to make it extra expensive to join for a trial period, and to basically force you into committing for a full year membership. I find this business model disturbing, TBH. Are you sure this gym has a culture (for want of a better word) and atmosphere that you can live with? Are there other places, equally accessible to you, that you might like better?

If you like the gym, I actually think it would be a good idea to grab this opportunity. You're motivated to lose weight and get into better shape. Doing so could improve your stamina, your energy level, and your mood as well as your general health. Plus, let's admit it--people are shallow. Fat people are still perceived as slovens and slackers, even by other fat people. You might find more doors opening to you when you've lost the weight. I've suspected more than once that my job prospects would be better as a thin person than as the fat chick I am.

- less accessible (would have to take a car)

- most have similar business plans, unless those more fancy ones wit personal trainers, but they're dead expensive.

- more job prospects would be amazing
