It turns out that I've been mishearing the first part this whole time; I thought it was "I found a love down by the key" like the Florida Keys or something. ~the more you know~

This time around was weird for me since usually most of mine are largely unguessable, but I had a lot of pop stuff come up on this shuffle.

Aw, I like Rude. Though I'm glad I don't listen to it often because I'd get tired of it if I did. A lot of pop songs are like that. Why don't you like it, out of curiosity?

Made the mistake of watching the video. Came to the conclusion that the lead singer was not a man that I would not want marrying my daughter either, given that he was a white guy with Rastafari dreds and I couldn't stop thinking about this the whole time:

And then the more I heard it the whinier it sounded... and... ugh. No man, that guy doesn't have an obligation to let you marry his daughter because we're all human or something.

No man gets to "let" you marry his daughter.

I assumed after listening to it a couple of times that the guy was going to marry the girl anyway, and he wanted the dad's blessing. I mean he basically said so, basically, "lol, we're getting married, can't you just be nice about it?"

Your attitude is creepy, ngl.

Also, one reason I rarely watch official music videos: they can ruin good songs. Can't comment on this one since I've never seen it.

No, no, no you misunderstand. I'm talking in the context of the song, where it seemed like the idea was that the father's blessing was something that that particular family (and presumably the girl the song is about) values and is thus an issue. I mean, in the first place find it suspect that the singer just presumes the girl even wants to marry him in the first place, but that's a whole other thing entirely.

If/when I have my own daughter I would hope I would impart the skills, knowledge and self-worth to make her own good choices.

In the context of that song, though - where this seems to be a thing - what I'm saying is I wouldn't be giving my blessing to that schlub either.

Also, I'm kind of offended that you'd assume that about me if we're all being honest here.

I'm honestly not sure what else I was supposed to get from "No man, that guy doesn't have an obligation to let you marry his daughter because we're all human or something". If it makes you feel better, I was surprised that you said it because I always thought you were pretty progressive on relationships.
