Re: Fandom Reactions to Characters Versus Casual Fans

For me, Sirius' death just never really connected with me the way Dumbledore's did. It was just too "bloodless" and quick for me to really process it. I spent the last half of Order of the Phoenix thinking that they were going to find some way to fetch Sirius back from wherever he'd been sent to.

Lack of screentime made it less painful as well. Like someone else mentioned, Dumbledore played an important role in all of the books (even, arguably, Deathly Hallows). More than that, I really bought the relationship that he and Harry had. Sirius just didn't spend enough time around Harry, and even when they were together it felt like Sirius was just seeing him as James 2.0. I know that Harry loved him, but it didn't resonate with me, and so his pain at losing him felt more like he was upset about losing a chance at a family / not having to go back to the Dursleys. "What could have been" and not "what was."
