You do know that men shave right?

Not all of them.

Oh my god. Stop white knighting for the male gender. Of course I know men shave. But most guys, (especially heterosexual ones) stick to shaving mostly their face though. All the boyfriends I've had have never shaved anywhere on their body.
I love guys. It doesn't mean I can't complain about them ever. They can handle a little bit of criticism, trust me. They don't need your white knighting "oh my god, guys have the same problems women do too!!"

I guess AYRT feels the need to do that because men's problems are frequently greeted with sneering contempt by too many people. Like, for example, you.

nayrt

Pointing out that most men don't shave beyond their faces and can take criticism without crumbling is "sneering contempt" now? Wow, you are a delicate hothouse flower.

I think any time the phrase "white knighting" is used, it's an indicator of sneering contempt, But hey, nice careful rephrasing.

I guess it's because I've chosen to scrutinize the actual substance of what was said instead of fixating on a phrase and seizing it as an excuse to stop reading, tumblr-style?

NAYRT, haven't posted in this thread before, to be clear

While this comment is clearly and obviously ridiculous and wrong, I do think that there's some truth to it in specific communities and circumstances - specific parts of the Internet, certain very specific groups, with a certain subclass of society.

So, I guess, don't let the obvious ridiculousness of this statement lead you to dismiss it entirely.

Re: Sad but true

No, it's because people like you literally always barge into any conversation about any problem that women face, saying WELL EXCUSE ME BUT DID U KNOW THAT MEN ALSO HAVE PROBLEM

Like...fucking yes. We know men have problems.

In this case especially, it was completely unnecessary, because there literally is no social imperative for men to shave. They can if they like to. Maybe their friends give them shit about it. That sucks. But it isn't a 100% pervasive YOU MUST DO THIS OR BE SHUNNED BY SOCIETY.

How would you know?

I'm kidding. You obviously wouldn't know, because the shit coming out of your mouth makes that clear.

There are things about other people's experiences that you don't understand. Welcome to privilege.

is this comment for real?

Re: Sad but true

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The difference is no one will harass them or tell them that they are fucking disgusting or insult them for not shaving.

Re: Sad but true

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Um... yes they will. There's a lot of beard hate out there. Plus it's not considered "professional appearance" in most cases, so you can literally lose your job for not shaving. Women get a lot of shit about "professional appearance" too, obviously, but let's not lie.

Good grief.

Go into a ONTD Chris Evans post and see the love for that man's beard. See the fandom crumble when he shaves it for Marvel. There is a lot of love for bearded men nonnie.

Though in all seriousness, are you fucking kidding? Men don't get half the shit women do. I've had men tell me in public it's shameful that I don't shave my legs and wear capri's or shorts when it's hot. I've seen the same for girls who don't shave underarms. Not to mention how most men will shrink like a daisy if you have a full bush.

Honestly where are all these jobs firing men for beards?

Re: Sad but true

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I buy beards being seen as unprofessional, depending on the job. But it's considered quite unprofessional for a woman to have facial hair too, so it's not like there's a special sort of beard oppression going on that only affects men.
