Are there a lot of people like that? I figured most of them must have been joking, since it would have made little sense.

Sure it would have been interesting to meet Anders and get to pick whether your Inquisitor personally would have been sympathetic/understanding or not, and whether you want to execute him or not. Inquisition as an institution could have never backed Anders up, at least not in the beginning, since that would have been the worst political move in ages.

I am personally glad he wasn't brought back, cos I couldn't stand the fighting that would be bound to result. Dragon Age fandom is crap.

I haven't seen any, but of course the fandom is huge so that doesn't mean they don't exist. Maybe people are hoping he'll show up in a DLC? I would rather see Sten, or Zevran (yea, he got a short quest-line, but that doesn't count) or Aveline (though that seems unlikely).

I am with you in that it would have been interesting to see him again and possibly judge him (especially if Anders was/is Hawke's LI!), but I'm ultimately glad that didn't happen because Anders wank is tiresome. (I get the people who like him, I get the people who hate him, but I don't like the wank.)

And the slight mentions we got were nice and pretty tasteful, so I'm fine with it being left to that.

There's a rumor that Isabela will show up in a DLC, because people found her outfit among some files or something like that. I'm okay with that. Although that might mean other DA2-cast members returning. I dread wankiness. Personally would love to see some Origins/Awakening cast make a return (Zevran is my first pick, but would love to hear from Shale, Sten, Nathaniel and Sigrun among others)

There was a lot of wank about Varric's comments among some Anders-fans, since they felt that Varric took a too negative stance on him. Idk, I thought Varric being a bit bitter about Kirkwall was not OOC, but you know Dragon Age fandom. They will wank about anything.

I would be okay with Isabela returning too (and it makes sense as she's a series regular by now), but she isn't my favorite. Shale or Sigrun would be GREAT surprises. Wasn't the last time Shale mentioned in one of the books? (The one with Cole and Wynne? I liked that one.) Of course Sigrun has an even wider variety of outcomes, but BioWare could probably make it work if they wanted to. Nathaniel was lucky enough to be briefly in DA2 so I don't expect to see him again for a bit, but I would love to; he was one of my favorite Awakenings cast members. (Or, you know, just give us Teagan. It isn't fair to mention him and even go to Redcliffe but not see him!)

Ah, okay. I think it makes perfect sense for Varric to be bitter about Anders and Kirkwall. I don't think he hates Anders either, I think he hates what he's done and feels betrayed and angry. (Much like Hawke, especially if you romance him and disagree with his decision.) It's a believable and understandable reaction, if a bit heartbreaking (since they had a cute friendship before things went to hell).

I thought I heard that Varric's reaction to Anders was dependent on the choices Hawke made, like if he sided with the templars or mages or something? I thought there were some lines that changed on account of that anyway..

I think he's still a bit bitter even if you sided with mages, just less, or differently. But I really can't confirm this, since I played a pro-mage Hawke, who romanced Anders and then broke up with him after Chantry explosion.

Ugh, the Varric wank. I really don't understand why people would think that Varric would view Anders any differently than he does in game. Anders betrayed Varric's trust and completely destroyed the city he grew up in. Even in DA2 he expresses reservations if Hawke sides with the mages. Varric's comments were appropriate, and I'm glad he expressed bitterness over the events in DA2. I read way too many fics where the explosion was just swept under the rug while Hawke and Anders run off into the sunset with the party (sans Sebastian) supporting them. Do people really think Varric would go, "Meh. My hometown is in complete chaos and hundreds are dead, but the guy who's responsible was my buddy so I guess I'll let it slide." Really?? Varric's reaction in DA:I, imo, was realistic.

anders stans were bitter bc varric is the only one in da2 you can remotely imagine anders having an ic friendship with besides hawke, but then in da:i he shitted all over their beloved anders, sooooooo

I've seen a post floating about on tumblr of a screenshot of the Dragon Age Keep Tapestry with the choices "Approved of Anders's actions at the Chantry" and "Anders is alive", accompanied by a text comment to the effect of "these are the only correct choices and you must have them in your world state".

I've also seen a fix-it comic where Varric requests Hawke to bring Anders to Skyhold to help the Inquisitor, and everyone is just kind of pleased to see him.

So yeah, it does look like there are people in the fandom who think Anders should face no consequences. But of course it's Dragon Age fandom, where mages can do no wrong, especially if enough players find them cute.
