I like Anders (even if, like you said, I think his writing in DA2 was atrocious. I think the basic idea of his plotline would have made sense for his character, but the execution was just terrible) but yeah, it would be pretty dumb and nonsensical if he were in DA:I for cuddles and sympathy. Anders-stans are...special.

I liked Anders' storyline - going back to playing DA:A, you can see how the seeds of what he'll become are there, and the Justice thing was pretty cool too.

Just like all of DA2, I felt like it was rushed. I think it would've been cool to actually see the act of Anders and Justice combining in Act 1, but still have his cheery fun personality. Then Act 2 he could become more somber - while simultaneously, the mage/templar tensions could be getting higher in Kirkwall - and finally by Act 3 he could've been the Anders of the extant DA2. I think the opportunity for character progression would have been really awesome and they missed the boat on that.

Then again, I felt like Kirkwall was really underdeveloped, and had potential, but was ultimately just too rushed.

Are there a lot of people like that? I figured most of them must have been joking, since it would have made little sense.

Sure it would have been interesting to meet Anders and get to pick whether your Inquisitor personally would have been sympathetic/understanding or not, and whether you want to execute him or not. Inquisition as an institution could have never backed Anders up, at least not in the beginning, since that would have been the worst political move in ages.

I am personally glad he wasn't brought back, cos I couldn't stand the fighting that would be bound to result. Dragon Age fandom is crap.

I haven't seen any, but of course the fandom is huge so that doesn't mean they don't exist. Maybe people are hoping he'll show up in a DLC? I would rather see Sten, or Zevran (yea, he got a short quest-line, but that doesn't count) or Aveline (though that seems unlikely).

I am with you in that it would have been interesting to see him again and possibly judge him (especially if Anders was/is Hawke's LI!), but I'm ultimately glad that didn't happen because Anders wank is tiresome. (I get the people who like him, I get the people who hate him, but I don't like the wank.)

And the slight mentions we got were nice and pretty tasteful, so I'm fine with it being left to that.

I've seen a post floating about on tumblr of a screenshot of the Dragon Age Keep Tapestry with the choices "Approved of Anders's actions at the Chantry" and "Anders is alive", accompanied by a text comment to the effect of "these are the only correct choices and you must have them in your world state".

I've also seen a fix-it comic where Varric requests Hawke to bring Anders to Skyhold to help the Inquisitor, and everyone is just kind of pleased to see him.

So yeah, it does look like there are people in the fandom who think Anders should face no consequences. But of course it's Dragon Age fandom, where mages can do no wrong, especially if enough players find them cute.

Coddling? I don't think there exists a DA character who needs coddling.

But the Chantry sucked, Elthina deserved to go down as much as any video game character does. I was not in the least bit outraged by what Anders did. The Chantry was doing a lot of skeevy shit (including harboring and even promoting a murderer), and not doing a lot of things that made it even more skeevy. Fuck the Chantry. Damn straight I high-fived Anders.

(obviously this is video game land and I don't condone real life terrorism, then again, I don't condone real life killing of absolutely anyone except in strict self defense, just to disclaim before someone gets all butthurt on me about morals when they've literally just slayed countless people in the same game.)

It's not JUST Elthina who was killed though. Varric said that a hundred people were killed in the explosion. I have A LOT of issues with the Chantry in DA2, but it's not worth killing innocents (even faceless npc's, lol) over. Planting a bomb in the Chantry (in the middle of a populated city) was a stupid move on so many levels.

I do sort of wish that Hawke's LI got to make an appearance in DA:I, which would include Anders for me since my first Hawke romanced him. I think it would be nice to catch up with him and maybe see some happiness had come his way in later years. Not quite coddling but Kirkwall was a pretty miserable place for anyone, let alone an apostate.

The same goes for Fenris, Isabela, and Merrill.

Of course, I'm also one of those fuckers whose not welcome in the fandom since I don't think either the mages are completely right [nor do I think the templars are, tbh]. But heaven forbid you don't fall in with the Fandom Approved Opinion. : /

They bent over backwards and warped their own canon to rewrite Cullen into someone his fangirls wouldn't have to feel guilty about stanning. I'm sure they could retcon Anders into someone deserving of cuddles and kittens, if they really wanted to.

I hear you OP. On the other hand, there are people that try to support what Loghain did in the Alienage as being "morally right for Ferelden (and he had his reasons, how can you not like him!)". So, I'm not surprised.

Personally, I like Anders as a character, but he still need to be held accountable.

I always find funny that the fandom always makes of Anders the worst character ever, considering all of them have done shitty things (Isabela and The Qunari? Fenris killing the fog warriors? Merrill and her clan?).
Personally, I love all of them, shitty actions included. And I wouldn't kill or abandon any of them.
