(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 02:05 am (UTC)(link)In the end, I DID eventually romance him with my elven mage, and I cringed a bit at the dialogue you got from it (my god, talk about self-esteem issues), but I overall enjoyed the outcome. So while I might be hella thirsty for Cullen (in the fact that I'd bang him like a door in a hurricane), I don't really consider myself a fangirl of him because I'm not that huge fan of him as a character overall.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 04:11 am (UTC)(link)See, my issue was that I could have accepted his supposed character development between DA2 and DA:I, except it all happened off-screen. And when you can talk to him about it in-game, he downplays the role he had in what happened in DA2. He was essentially Meredith's second-in-command, but he claims that he wasn't fully aware of all the bad things that were happening, which is, based on words that come directly out of his own mouth in DA2, certified BS.
When you do the things he did and you feel genuine remorse for them, you spend the rest of your life atoning, whether other people think you need to or not. But his character arc in DA:I is... not that. All his pre-existing character development was thrown out the window in exchange for presenting him as a pretty, easily marketable woobie. As much as I loathe the guy, it really wasn't fair to him as a character to whitewash his history.
Nor was it fair to me who now has to deal with DA fanworks seemingly all being about him XDno subject
