(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)I'm pretty sure what they wanted to write was "he who wields this hammer commands the lightning and the storm." What they actually wrote was "he woh wields thhis hfmmeo commfngds thhe llghthngingg fngd thhe sthorm."
So I agree it'd be cool if someone used the Gothic alphabet in fic or art, but I don't have much faith it'd be used well or be correct.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 01:21 am (UTC)(link)[hagalaz, ehwaz] (h,e) [wunjo, othila, hagalaz] (w,o,h) [wunjo, isaz, ehwaz, laguz, dagaz, sowilo] (w,i,e,l,d,s) [thurisaz, hagalaz, isaz, sowilo] (th,h,i,s) [hagalaz, fehu, mannaz, mannaz, ehwaz, othila] (h,f,m,m,e,o) [kenaz, othila, mannaz, mannaz, fehu, ingwaz, dagaz, sowilo] (c,o,m,m,f,ng,d,s) [thurisaz, hagalaz, ehwaz] (th,h,e) [laguz, laguz, gebo, hagalaz, thurisaz, ingwaz, isaz, ingwaz, gebo] (l,l,g,h,th,ng,i,ng,g) [fehu, ingwaz, daguz] (f,ng,d) [thurisaz, hagalaz, ehwaz] (th,h,e) [sowilo, thurisaz, othila, raidho, mannaz] (s,th,o,r,m)*
So basically their most regular mistake was not realising several runes are actually digraphs using latin script (using 'th' thurisaz instead of 't' tiwaz and 'ng' ingwaz instead of 'n' nauthiz). They also confused 'f' fehu for 'a' ansuz, though to be fair those two runes are visually quite similar. They then seem to have just randomly reversed the letter order once (hwo), and I'm not quite sure what happened with the double 'l' in lightning, or why they appeared to confuse 'o' othila for 'r' raido in hammer but got it right in storm, but those could just be typos I suppose. Or rushing the job through at the end.
It's actually not that bad an attempt for someone who didn't know what they were doing. Their major mistakes are confusing two similar-looking runes for each other, and not understanding the letter-to-digraph thing across the two scripts. Those maybe aren't terrible sins for a beginner doing something for a hobby.
Mind you, you can look up the entire alphabet on wikipedia, which does make them somewhat less forgivable.
* Using the elder futhark, and my spellings for the names might be off in places because I've seen multiple versions.
