Re: rich people stories

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
My uncle is super rich. Like on the top richest people list in Forbes every year. And he is a total shit. I only saw him for "special occasions" like holidays and the wedding of one of his daughters (we weren't invited to his (second or third) weddings or to the wedding of his other daughter). And the one time he brought Christmas presents to our family Christmas gathering, it was obvious that his secretary had picked them out. He gave his mother a horrible gift. (Part of it was a Christmas ornament that had the year before's date on it.)

On the other hand, his oldest daughter, who is also one of the 1% obviously, is super nice. She is really clueless about everything that is in the lives of non 1%ers (doesn't everyone get to sail all the time all summer?) but she genuinely seems to care in a twisted sort of way.

While I would love to have money, and not have to scrape and scrounge to do anything, I am very very glad I am not more involved in my uncle's life or act like my uncle. No amount of money is worth that. And I guess that is why I will never be a 1%er.
